We strongly promote the ideal of the business owner being able to update the site in a simple and straight  forward manner. When it comes to having a good site that people will visit, content is king.

Think of a site you visit frequently and why. Like most people you probably visit a website because it has useful information, content that is frequently updated and perhaps some useful products or services.

Sites with good content are thus because the business owner has a site that's easily updated by using what’s known as a content management system (CMS). This system allows the user to logon from anywhere they have access to the internet and add content to their site.

All of our sites use a CMS called Drupal. It is one of the best CMS systems out there. The nice thing about drupal is its open-source i.e. it’s not proprietary. This has a number of very large advantages for the customer. Unlike a proprietary CMS that’s owned by say a small company, which for arguments sake is overhauled and improved 1/year by the senior programmer with the latest and greatest code or application. Drupal on the other hand is overhauled, updated and monitored by a community of thousands of programmers all over the world practically every month. That's what makes Drupal an excellent choice.  

So with an open source CMS like drupal, you can easily pick and choose designers . This  freedom is incontrast  to proprietary CMS  systems unique to your traditional web-design company in Ireland where you're stuck with their system and the pace of change of their CMS. 

You may be familiar with all of the hype surrounding the apple iphone and perhaps you would think that a large cash cow company like apple would protect their proprietary software to the death. However core to apples strategy is it’s commitment to Open-source. It was one of the first major companies to make open-source part of it’s strategy.

Thousands of Iphone apps are created by people who do not work directly for apple. They can create these applications because they have access to the apple iphone code and know how it works. So in summary, take control of your website. Insist on a designer who will educate you on how to keep it up to date. Choose a CMS that’s open-source.
